Things You Wouldn't Expect To Find Living In Las Vegas

Living in Las Vegas

Do you still think "The Strip" is the only thing there is to Las Vegas?
You're wrong. Once you get away from the glitz and glam that is the Las Vegas strip large master planned communities such as Mountains EdgeSummerlinProvidenceGreen Valley, and Aliante all offer their own unique events and activities throughout the year.

SUMMERLIN ART FESTIVAL

Summerlin hosts the Summerlin Art Festival every fall which has become one of Las Vegas' largest cultural events. The next event is scheduled for October 12th and 13th at 1800 S Town Center Drive Las Vegas, NV 89135. Highlights of the festival include: Chalk Art Expo, a full line up of local music, dance performances, childrens activities, childrens activities, and more. Proceeds benefit the Discovery Children's Museum.

RED ROCK CANYON

From Summerlin simply take Charleston west a few miles past the 215 Beltway and you'll start to notice the scenery change drastically as you enter Red Rock Canyon National Park. Outdoor enthusiast from all over the world visit Red Rock Canyon to hike, bike, and climb. The canyon features a one-way 13 mile scenic drive, a visitor center, and a book store. Home owners living in the Summerlin Master Planned Community live a lifestyle that is impossible to duplicate with man made attractions. Want to check out homes for sale in Summerlin?

FLOYD LAMB PARK

The northwest portion of the valley offers a wide variety of activities most people wouldn't expect in Las Vegas. Just north of Centennial Hills on Durango Drive Floyd Lamb City Park offers 2,040 acres of natural desert areas as well as grassy tree covered lawns surrounding four small lakes. Native wildlife can be found throughout the park. Ducks, geese, chickens, and peacocks are park residents. Visit Floyd Lamb park over a weekend and you're likely to find people enjoying one of the covered BBQ and picnic areas others may be enjoying a day of fishing. Yes, I said FISHING in the desert as the lakes are regularly stocked with catfish and trout. The third Saturday of each month Floyd Lamb hosts a farmers market where locals can purchase fresh produce.

CLARK COUNTY SHOOTING PARK

If you look to the very far north section of Las Vegas on any night you'll see a strange glow at the base of the mountain with nothing else around it. To get there you simply take Decatur Blvd north from 215 as possible through Iron Mountain Ranch until it dead ends. When you arrive you'll find one of Nevada's largest hidden gems known as the Clark County Shooting Park. The park consists of 2,880 acres that was donated courtesy of the BLM in 2003. The 60 million dollar park has everything a shooter could ever dream of. This park isn't your neighborhood gun range. As you enter the park you'll notice it is 100% a gun lovers paradise. Ever considered taking a shooting vacation with the family? Situated just behind the main office are multiple rows of covered R.V. parking. All together the park has 80 full service R.V. sites. The park is broken down into three sections.1: Shotgun center - The 5,442 sq/ft shotgun center has a pro shop and 24 trap and skeet fields. Each with multiple angles and lanes which are market out to 27 yards.2: Rifle and pistol center - This 3,000 sq.ft building has a pro shop, bathrooms, training room, and a reception area. The range has 60 positions consisting of 30 50 yard positions, 15 100 yard positions, and 15 200 yard positions. Best of all you'll stay protected from the Las Vegas sun because the firing line is completely covered.3: Archery center - This covered area is the best place to hone your archery skills using it's known distance range. This post doesn't even scratch the surface on all of the things to do residents of Las Vegas can do away from the bright lights of the strip.
